    Dallas-Fort Worth storm response guide

After the Storm, Know What to Do

Texas sits in the heart of hail alley, and a single DFW metroplex storm can dent thousands of vehicles in minutes. What you do in the first 48 hours shapes your hail damage insurance claim, your out-of-pocket cost and whether your car qualifies for quick, affordable paintless dent repair instead of body filler and a respray. Follow these three steps, then book a free hail damage estimate in Dallas-Fort Worth.

    1. Document your hail damage first

Photograph the roof, hood, trunk, doors and glass in angled daylight the same day the Dallas-Fort Worth hail storm passes. Dated hail damage photos strengthen your auto insurance claim and let our Dallas-Fort Worth hail damage repair team pre-read the panels before you ever drive in.

    2. Protect the vehicle from further damage

Park under cover, tape any broken glass, and keep water out of impacts that cracked the paint. DFW metroplex storms often stack up back to back, and a second round of hail on an already dented panel can push a fast paintless dent repair into costly refinishing.

    3. Book a free hail damage assessment

Call your carrier to open the comprehensive claim, then book a free hail damage estimate in Dallas-Fort Worth with DFW Paintless Dent Repair. A technician reads every panel under reflection lighting and gives you an honest, affordable paintless dent repair plan, usually the same week you call.

Do not dry-ice, heat or press the dents yourself.DIY attempts can cause more damage and reduce repair options.

Roof Hail Damage Repair in DFW

The roof faces the sky flat on, so after a Metroplex storm it almost always carries the highest impact count on the vehicle. DFW hail damage repair on a roof is normally done from underneath, which means dropping or partially releasing the headliner and working through existing openings. Because roof skins are thin and lightly braced, technicians work slowly and re-read the panel under reflection lighting after every pass to keep the factory finish intact.

    What a technician evaluates here

    • Impact density from the windshield header to the rear glass
    • Headliner, airbag curtain and roof-rail access
    • Sunroof frame, drip rails and antenna surrounds
    • Metal stretch on the largest strikes, which can limit PDR
    • Any earlier bodywork that changes how the panel moves

Eligibility for paintless dent repair depends on paint condition, metal stretch, panel access and damage location. Panel-by-panel mapping is also what your insurer's adjuster works from, so a documented assessment helps a hail claim move cleanly. Every vehicle is confirmed by inspection at our DFW metro shop.

    Be informed.

A few smart habits during Texas hail season can help protect your vehicle and your peace of mind.

    • Fast-moving storms

Hailstorms can develop quickly in the Metroplex. Stay aware of changing forecasts through the spring and summer months.

    • Exposed parking

Park in a garage or under cover when it is possible to do so. Uncovered parking is the single biggest exposure most metro drivers have.

    • Inspect in good light

Check your vehicle in natural light at horizontal surfaces like the roof, hood and trunk, where shallow dimpling shows first.

    • Report promptly

Report hail damage to your insurer as soon as possible according to your policy. Reporting windows are set by your carrier.

    Common Hail
    Damage Questions

A Dallas-Fort Worth auto hail damage repair and insurance FAQ: what paintless dent repair can fix, how a Texas hail claim works, what shapes the cost of a repair, and what to do after a DFW metroplex storm.

There is no flat rate. Cost depends on how many dents are on the vehicle, how large and deep they are, which panels are affected and whether any panel needs conventional refinishing. A hail damage assessment produces a panel-by-panel damage map, and that map is what any estimate is built from. If you are filing a claim, your insurer prices the repair from its own estimate and we compare that document against what is physically on the vehicle.

Hail is normally handled under the comprehensive portion of an auto policy rather than collision, but whether your policy responds, and what you owe, is decided by your carrier. We can document the damage, provide repair information and communicate with your insurer, and we tell you plainly what we find. Coverage, deductible obligations and claim approval are always the insurance company's decision, not ours.

Paintless dent repair is the standard method for most auto hail repair. Technicians reach behind the panel and work the metal back to its original shape, or use glue-pull tabs from the surface where there is no access. It suits the rounded, shallow dents hail leaves. Eligibility still depends on paint condition, metal stretch, dent depth and panel access, which is confirmed in person under reflection lighting.

You can arrange a free hail damage assessment anywhere in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, or start online by uploading clear photos of the roof, hood, trunk and doors. Photos help us understand the scale of the damage, but a written estimate is only finalised once a technician has read the panels in person.

Your deductible is set by your policy. Some Texas drivers find they owe little or nothing out of pocket depending on their coverage and the size of the claim, and others owe the full deductible. We cannot waive a deductible or promise a $0 out-of-pocket repair, and any shop that does should be treated with caution. Ask us about your situation and we will explain how the repair side works.

You report the damage to your carrier, they open a claim and issue an estimate, usually after a photo review or an adjuster inspection. You choose the repair shop. We then compare that estimate with the damage found on the vehicle and, where legitimate additional items are documented, submit them to the insurer as a supplement. Repairs proceed once the carrier approves them.

It depends entirely on the impact count and which panels are involved. Light scatter on a hood and roof is a very different job from a heavy storm pattern across every horizontal panel, and claim approval timing is outside our control. We give you a realistic time range once the damage map is complete, not before.

That is the aim of paintless dent repair. Eligible dents are reshaped without sanding, filler or respraying, so your factory paint and clear coat stay on the vehicle and there is no refinish record on the panel. Where hail has cracked or chipped the paint, or stretched the metal too far, that area falls outside PDR and we will tell you before work begins.

Photograph every panel in good, angled light, park under cover if you can, and report the damage to your insurer within the window your policy sets. Do not try dry ice, heat guns or pressing the dents out yourself, as those attempts can stretch metal and reduce what paintless repair can achieve. Then book a hail damage assessment so the damage is documented properly.

Often, yes. High dent counts alone do not rule out paintless repair; the limiting factors are cracked paint, sharp-edged impacts, badly stretched metal and panels with no access behind them. On heavier storm damage we usually map the vehicle panel by panel and note where PDR applies and where conventional refinishing is the honest recommendation.

Rental assistance may be available depending on the repair and whether your policy includes rental coverage, which your carrier authorises. Vehicle pickup and return is available for qualifying appointments across the DFW metro, subject to the repair and the route. Confirm both with us when you book rather than assuming they are included.
